The focus of this year’s APHR is ‘Healthy Ageing: Working together to improve wellbeing in later life’.

The concept of healthy ageing captures the broad range of factors that influence the health and wellbeing of older adults, including the wider determinants of wellbeing. This year’s annual report summarises what we know about older adults living in Camden and Islington, and their health, wellbeing and quality of life.

The report considers the current challenges and opportunities under each of the following four key themes:
• Quality of life, including being connected and feeling valued
• Environments that promote and support healthy ageing
• Key life transitions into and during older age
• Accessible, responsive and joined up health and care services when needed.

This public health intelligence profile describes the trends and patterns in the prevalence of dementia in Camden. It is one of a series of profiles on Mental Health.

A newly published analysis using the Electronic Frailty index (eFI) identifies the number of older people with severe, moderate and mild frailty in Camden.

The analysis shows that about a third of the older people (65+), registered in the Camden’s GP practices, have a mild frailty and at high risk of fall-related admissions, enabling preventative measures to be put in place.

This work will inform the Clinical Commissioning Group to develop an integrated care pathway for older people with frailty by considering individual vulnerability rather than by age alone.
