This health and wellbeing profile gives an overview of the burden of ill health in St Pancras and Somers Town, one of Camden's 18 electoral wards, focusing on areas where Councillors can take action to improve outcomes for residents.

This profile is designed to accompany the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) chapter on Demographics, which looks at segmenting the borough’s
population by their most significant health and social care need. This supplement looks at adults (aged 18 and over) instead of the overall population, because the
health and social care need segments covered in this section are more common in adults.

The aim of the study was to provide a clear understanding of the extent of current provision and identify interventions that would increase participation amongst local residents.
The needs assessment covered the Borough as a whole but had a particular focus on the wards of Kentish Town, Kilburn, Kings Cross and St Pancras and Somers Town. Residents living in these wards suffer the worst life expectancy and are amongst those with the lowest levels of regular participation in sport and physical activity.

4 Key areas explored as part of the study included:
• relevant policy, research and guidelines at a local, regional and national level
• demographic, health and participation profile of the local population
• barriers to participation
• current service provision and future needs
• adequacy of current indoor and outdoor facility provision

Camden’s Local Economic Assessment (LEA) describes the position of Camden in the London economy and discusses the economic challenges and opportunities for Camden. This should provide the Council and its partners with a sound understanding of the borough’s economic position.

The LEA will be used to inform local decisions on economic development and social policy in the context of significantly reduced public funding.

Local authorities are required to prepare an LEA under the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act 2009.
